A woman has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after three people died at a care home.
Dorset Police stated that while the deaths at Gainsborough Care Home in Swanage were initially classified as “unexplained,” carbon monoxide poisoning is being investigated as the main cause.
Emergency services responded to the care home on Ulwell Road, Swanage, Dorset, at 5:20 AM BST. Seven people were hospitalized, and residents were relocated to a nearby church hall.
A 60-year-old local woman was arrested on Wednesday evening.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third said the arrest was part of the investigation to determine whether there was gross negligence involved and to gather information on the incident. He added that the arrest also provides legal protections, urging the public and media to refrain from further speculation now that legal proceedings have begun.
The police confirmed that the families of the deceased have been notified, and the coroner has been informed.
