On October 14, Israeli forces conducted a strike near Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, targeting what they described as a Hamas command center. The strike hit a parking lot where many families, including the Dalous, had set up tents, believing they would be safe due to international laws protecting medical facilities.
