On October 9, 2025, two teenagers, Habu Sani and Haruna Isah, both 15 years old, drowned while swimming in a stream at Hayin Yawa Gada in the Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the deaths, stating that their emergency response unit was called to the scene. Firefighters recovered the two children from the waterway, but they were already unconscious and were later confirmed dead. Their bodies were handed over to the police.
The incident is one of several similar tragedies that have occurred in the state. The Kano State Fire Service has repeatedly appealed to parents and community members to prevent children from swimming or playing near streams and other open bodies of water to avoid such devastating incidents.
